MERS疫情持續延燒，南韓甚至已將疫情級別上調至最高的「嚴重」，國內部分壽險公司陸續公告針對民眾在1998年以前投保的終身型醫療險仍可從寬認定，若未來感染，依舊能申請理賠。
據瞭解，1998年之前的終身型醫療險，因為擔心法定傳染病的擴散範圍太廣，加上保障期間長達終身，業者擔心理賠結果超出保險公司財力負擔，因而保單示範條款將法定傳染病列為除外責任，但目前已經不再如此規定。
目前包括中國信託人壽、國泰人壽、富邦人壽，皆已公告針對MERS疫情，將比照先前SARS時，雖然也被列為法定傳染病，但也有放寬理賠標準。
中國信託人壽表示，若有感染MERS等法定傳染疾病的醫療險保戶，未來都將依保單條款約定給付，且如果需要在負壓隔離病房治療者，也比照加護病房給付。
至於若是投保旅行平安險並附加海外突發疾病附約的保戶，於契約有效期間內於海外接受的門診或住院治療者，中國信託人壽同樣將依約理賠。
而國泰人壽的新舊投保也相同，一旦保戶罹患法定傳染病MERS，將比照SARS及H7N9期間從寬認定，讓保戶獲得迅速的理賠給付及完整醫療保障。
針對MERS此類傳染病常需入住的負壓隔離病房，除了給付住院日額醫療保險金，國泰人壽將額外比照加護病房住院標準，提供理賠升級保障。
富邦人壽則提醒，由於法定傳染病是一種疾病，「意外傷害險」是針對「非疾病引起的外來突發事故」，因此無法理賠，但像是「醫療險」就可以，且若因此而身故或全殘，「壽險」也可以給付。
富邦人壽目前針對投保早期有將法定傳染病列為除外責任的醫療險也從寬理賠，依契約條款各項原定給付項目約定負保險責任，提供住院醫療保障。
